The Rising Church Stained Glass Restoration Feature

The Rising Church Stained Glass Restoration Feature

We’re happy to announce the recent completion of our church stained glass restoration project for a local church based in Arvada, CO. The Rising Church is beloved for its extensive homeless outreach and was built in 1913. One unfortunate evening, someone walking by had thought they heard screaming coming from the closed church. In turn, they threw stones through the stained glass windows to prevent whatever was happening. Fortunately, there was actually no one inside but the damage had already been done to the windows.

The Church Stained Glass Restoration Process and Challenges for the Rising Church

We went for an in-person assessment of the stained glass and found 90% of the original windows damaged. These windows were transported back to our studio in order to complete our restoration process. We began by soaking the windows in a specialty solution so they would be easier to disassemble and clean. We cataloged all the glass that wasn’t damaged and replaced everything else from pieces in our inventory or from custom manufacturing. Our goal is to always create a perfect match to the original. Hand-painted glass that was damaged underwent an invisible glass mending in order to keep these pieces intact. A challenge was that the windows were missing their original lead frame in order to fit the church. We had to resize them for installation and create new lead for all of them. After reinstallation, we also installed custom polycarbonate for exterior protection with venting.
